About

Steve Finesilver has been a teacher and coach at his alma mater, George Washington High School, since 1987, where he has invested in the students and families of the Denver Public Schools community. He teaches students how to succeed in life and achieve their dreams. The time has arrived to confront what isn't working in our schools and find a way to give every student and family the help they desperately need.

His hope is that you will find encouragement from the progress being made in talks with the district. Material will be presented openly on this website.  You will find opportunities to contribute to the efforts to lift up the disadvantaged in this community and others. Through proven methods—in the classroom, in the clubs, in the gym, and on the fields—children can rise to meet the challenges of both education and life.

Coach Fino has been instrumental in bringing hope to families in Denver and has watched as those he teaches and nurtures find their wings and take off to chase their dreams and achieve their life's purposes. Beginning with his own village of seven children and three grandchildren, he is involved with many of his students' families, providing them with food deliveries every weekend and directing and connecting them to resources, some of which he started in order to meet the needs. Two of those programs, Jobs by George and Denver Youth Initiative, have been instrumental in helping young people prepare for life.

“Student success is not necessarily tied to money. Kids need to believe; they need to be told and sold on their worth; their value. They want to succeed—we need to tell them they can.”

— Steve Finesilver

Our Vision

Our vision is to see all children have equal opportunities to learn. Many programs have been implemented over the years, but our children continue to struggle. With teachers from their own cultures, modernized curriculums, and adequate resources allocated for special help, our schools can become institutions that are safe and where learning is taking place for every student.
